Support Madison Parks’ Junior Ranger Water Safety and Paddling event. Volunteers will help welcome participating youth and families, guide them to the event meeting area, assist with registration and prepare participants for activities on the water. Volunteers who are comfortable paddling may also accompany the group on the water and provide additional supervision.
Responsibilities
- Direct participants from nearby parking areas to the event meeting area
- Welcome youth and families as they arrive
- Assist Park Rangers with participant registration and check-in
- Help participants prepare for paddling activities
- Provide general event support as directed by Park Rangers
- If comfortable and able, join the group on the water and help supervise participants
- Follow all water-safety procedures and instructions provided by Park Rangers
Qualifications
- Friendly, welcoming and comfortable interacting with youth and families
- Able to follow directions and work collaboratively with Park Rangers
- Comfortable spending time outdoors
- Able to stand or walk for portions of the event
- Paddling experience is helpful for volunteers assisting on the water but is not required for land-based roles
- Volunteers assisting on the water must be comfortable paddling and wearing a personal flotation device
Additional Notes
- Check in with the Park Rangers when you arrive
- Both land-based and on-the-water volunteer assignments are available
- Volunteers are not required to go on the water
- Park Rangers will provide assignments, instructions and applicable safety information
- Dress for the weather and wear clothing and footwear appropriate for your assigned role
