Join Friends of Ridgewood Trails for a hands-on conservation event focused on planting Pennsylvania sedge along the trail system. These native plants will help prevent gully and rill erosion, stabilize fragile soils and preserve the natural beauty of Ridgewood Trails.
Friends of Ridgewood Trails (FORT)
Volunteers will help transport and plant Pennsylvania sedge in targeted erosion areas under the guidance of event leaders. This is a great opportunity to learn about native plants, trail stewardship and soil conservation while directly improving the park.
Responsibilities
• Help transport plants and supplies to designated planting areas
• Prepare planting locations using hand tools
• Plant Pennsylvania sedge according to instructions from event leaders
• Assist with watering and stabilizing newly planted areas as needed
• Follow event leaders’ guidance and remain on designated trails and work areas
What to Bring
• Work gloves
• A hand trowel or small garden shovel, if you have one
• A garden wagon or wheelbarrow, if you have one
• Closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
• A reusable water bottle
Meeting Location
Meet at 10:00 am on Sunday 9/27/26 at either:
• The northeast entrance via the trail along the railroad tracks
or
• The end of the lower parking lot of Ridgewood Trails Apartments
