Volunteer Workday - Odana Golf Course

Description

Canada Goldenrod has expanded quickly in this restoration site, and if left unchecked it can take over and push out other plants, reducing diversity. We’re organizing a volunteer effort to pull as many goldenrods as possible to keep the restoration balanced and healthy. This work makes a surprising difference—hand pulling can open space for a wide range of native plants and pollinator favorites.

Responsibilities

  • Help pull Canada Goldenrod from designated areas within the restoration site.
  • Collect pulled plants into piles for staff to manage.
  • Follow site guidance from staff or volunteer leaders to protect desired species.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Able to bend, pull, and lift light to moderate weight.
  • No prior plant ID experience needed—staff and leaders will guide which plants to target.

Additional Notes

  • Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and bring work gloves if you have them (extras available).
  • Bring a full water bottle and dress for the weather.
  • This opportunity is family-friendly; youth are welcome with an accompanying adult.
  • All tools and supplies will be provided.
