Setup Shift (2:00–4:00pm): Assemble and place tealights along the trail before the event. Some indoor preparation may occur before heading outdoors.

Take Down Shift (6:30–8:30pm): Collect and pack up tealights after the event. This shift takes place entirely outdoors Work as a team to ensure the trail is safe, bright, and welcoming for all attendees. Follow staff instructions for setup, safety, and cleanup.

Volunteers in this role do NOT perform trail tread shaping, dirt work, or jump/berm construction — those tasks may only be completed under CORP or Parks staff supervision through separate scheduled volunteer opportunities. This role is flexible and allows individuals to work on their own schedule after registering and signing a waiver.

Responsibilities

Trim grass and weeds encroaching on trail corridors. Collect and dispose of trash and debris along trails. Report hazards, erosion, or needed repairs to Parks staff. Work safely and independently, following provided guidelines.

Seed Collection Volunteers help support Madison Parks’ ecological restoration efforts by collecting seeds from native plants throughout the city. Volunteers will visit various parks to collect seeds from woodland species, rare or less common plants, and other target species as they become ready. This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy independent work, exploring different habitats, and contributing to the long-term health and diversity of Madison’s natural areas.

Responsibilities:

Visit assigned or self-selected park locations to monitor and collect seeds from native plants. Follow guidance on target species, collection methods, and timing to ensure seed viability. Record collection information, including species, quantity, location, and date. Deliver collected seeds to Madison Parks staff or designated drop-off points. Work independently, safely, and respectfully within public parks.

Qualifications:

Interest in native plants, ecology, or conservation. Comfortable traveling to different park locations across the city. Ability to work independently and follow instructions accurately. Willingness to handle seeds carefully and follow collection protocols. Previous experience with native plant identification or seed collection is a plus but not required.
